Smartscapes landscaping tools and machinery is 100% electric, and powered by renewable solar energy. We are the first commercial landscaping company to achieve this in Nevada, and much of California. We deliver professional-grade landscape maintenance services, that save thousands of pounds a year of carbon into the atmosphere.
While we do occasionally handle single-family residential homes, our primary segments are commercial properties, rental home portfolios, short-term vacation rentals, and multi-family and industrial properties. This allows us to focus on serving our commercial clients well. We are licensed, trained, and set up to handle your property or groundskeeping needs.

This was a question that was plaguing the family property management team, Michael and Angel Cutler. For years, they managed rental home properties for an organization and clients. They consistently saw the same problem come up. Poor landscaping led to lower values and higher maintenance costs. How can it be changed, to lead to long-term low-maintenance low-water use? In addition, how can a landscape service maintenance company reduce or even eliminate the problems and delays that come from old machines breaking down? They started a business within a business that services their own properties, along with a handful of others. Over time, other property owners and managers started requesting their services, which eventually grew into a company that later led to Smartscapes.
Michael and Angel volunteer to help refugees and recent immigrants adapt to new life in Reno. One area that was always a need was job training and career advancement. Smartscapes has become a resource for training and connecting young internationals with home-service industry jobs, through work with Sierra Nevada Job Corps and the Northern Nevada International Center.
Reno-Sparks and Lake Tahoe areas are unique in climate. Our high-desert and mountain environments, while strikingly beautiful, create a challenge for landscaping. Our high diurnal temperature changes each day, along with annual fluctuations in temperature and precipitation create a special place for plants and landscaping. For starters, we are arid and dry, which requires irrigation for most types of non-native plants. Yet, we can have late frosts, spring snow, and unexpected warm spells in late winter. All of these climate variations require special horticulture for our region.

We defer construction projects to a partnering business that has the tools, equipment, bidding licensing to handle all landscape construction needs. We can collaborate with them to make it a seamless smooth process and advise on trees and plants.
Yes, we perform most patio and deck cleanings, along with patio furniture setup on Wednesdays. We also offer purchase, pickup, assembly, and decor services. Our patio furniture assembly service often gets booked in advance during early summer months. Request a quote to get started.
With the exception of minor gate and fence repairs, we refer large full fence construction to a partnering licensed fencing contractor we collaborate with.

We offer irrigation turn-ons, winterization, and minor adjustments to sprinklers and replacements to sprinklers. Large repairs, and new irrigation system design and construction we refer clients to our partnering business that is a licensed irrigation specialist.
While in the early years of battery-operated landscape machinery, the performance was sub-par to traditional gas-operated combustion engine machines, the technology has rapidly developed and improved over the past several years. Now, most landscape machines have equally powerful battery-operated counterparts. Smartscapes, with the exceptions of a handful of specialty machines, uses all-electric, battery operated, professional-grade machines for its services. Lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, trimmers, blowers and more. Less maintenance. Quieter. And zero exhaust pollution.
Smartscapes entire business is powered by our on-site photovoltaic solar panel farm. Two of our team members have a background in solar power. This allows us to utilize Nevada's abundant sunshine year round to charge batteries that provide energy to our operations. We pass these savings, and lower maintenance costs on to our customers in the form of lower landscaping maintenance costs.
Organic mulching is a unique service that gives the option to our clients to have certain organic material, like tree branches, and even grass clippings, mulched on site or off-site, rather than ending up in the landfill. This mulch can be repurposed for water-saving tree mulch and planter bed mulch that keeps the hot sun off roots, and perspiration down. Another smart method, helping the environment. Whether you utilize Yardi, Buildium, Appfolio, RentRedi, or your own in-house vendor management program, or you are an HOA or HOA management company like Associa, we can work with your system and standards, for all your invoicing, quality assurance and and job tracking needs.
Smartscapes serves most of the Truckee Meadows and parts of Lake Tahoe. This includes Caughlin Ranch, Aarowcreek, Damonte Ranch, South Meadows, Sparks, Spanish Springs, Wingfield Springs, North Valleys, Northwest Reno, Midtown and UNR areas.
We do not require long-term contracts. We offer season prepay discounts for prepaying full season services for lawnmowing and routine landscaping service.
We have placed some of our pricing throughout the different service pages on our website. While every yard and property is different in its size and needs. We offer standard lawncare pricing for three most common yard sizes for residential.
Our smart landscape services gives you a choice to piece together services that match your budget and preferences. For example, we offer basic, entry-level, small yard mowing services, along with fertilization packages, that are not required to be bundled. This saves our clients money, and allows you to pick the solution that best fits your preferences.
We offer minor pruning, trimming and small tree cutting. For larger trees, and larger jobs, we have a long-time relationship with a licensed local tree specialist.
