Pre-Emergent Weed Control

Less Weeds Cleaner Looking Property

”It is time to take control of your property and stay ahead of next season’s weed growth. ”

Have less weeds, with less work. Pre-emergent weed prevention is an important element in property grounds maintenance. Keep your planter beds, side spaces, exposed soil, gravels and more, cleaner, and less weedy. You’ll have a better, well-kept property, with less hassle, less whack-a-mole issues throughout the season.

What is Pre-Emergent Herbicide?

Pre-emergent herbicide is a specialized chemical formula that works to prevent the germination of seeds of selected weed species. Some of the most common weed species in the Northern Nevada and Reno-Sparks area include Russian thistle, Siberian elms, cheatgrass, milkweed, wild mustard, white top and many more.

Pre-emergent application is a proactive way of staying ahead of weeds, so that there are less weeds to cut, remove, and pull throughout the season. It allows you, or your grounds maintenance landscapers to focus on more important areas like cleaning, tree care, flowers and lawn. With less weeds growing, it is less likely for unsightly and unwanted plant species to grow.

Pre-Emergent Weed Preventer Prevent Weeds From Growing

Pre-emergent works differently than standard herbicide. Traditional herbicide works at killing already existing unwanted plants. Those plants need to be large enough to absorb the formula, for it to work properly. This means that there will be many weeds exposed and visible, in order for herbicide to work best.

Pre-emergent works and prevents the germination and sprouting of unwanted plants in the first place. The chemical formula, when properly applied, and with best conditions, works its way into the soil, just under the surface, and helps stop and/or kill germination of seeds from select pest plant species. The is formulated to not affect, or have low effect on more popular and desired plant species, such as intended flowers, conifers, certain deciduous trees and more.

How Pre-emergent is applied

Pre-emergent weed preventer herbicide is typically a dry-powder form. It is spread generously throughout all exposed soil surfaces, like bare ground, planter beds, gravel covered areas and more. (typically avoiding most lawns and hardscapes). Then natural moisture from snow, rain or dew and humidity draw it into the lower soil surface, to come in contact with weed seeds from the previous generation. As the next growing season moves along, this chemical formula works at preventing many of the seeds from germinating and sprouting, leaving mass areas with less weeds.

Benefits of Pre-Emergent Weed Control

There are many benefits of applying pre-emergent weed control. Some include:

In fact, for large properties, or ones with complicated landscape designs, pre-emergent herbicide can cut non-lawn landscape maintenance costs by up to 20%, along with less complaints, issues and unsightly sprouts.

Limitations of Pre-Emergent Weed Control

Pre-emergent weed control has its limits and risks. Some of these include:

Our residential pre-emergent application typically starts at $85 for most residential yard sizes. Larger lots may be more. Commercial application can be part of your maintenance plan, or starting at the same price as residential for small retail and spaces. Multi-family properties are priced by ¼ acre or per building, similar to residential houses. It includes our professional-grade commercial chemical formula, along with the labor of application, and cleanup. Most applications can typically be performed in under an hour. We do not work it into the soil, but allow it to seep naturally.
